‘I just want my parenting to be able to be better than what it is’: A qualitative exploration of parenting strengths and needs of mothers experiencing homelessness

Perspectives of parents themselves should be central in framing services delivered to families experiencing homelessness. We explored the strengths and positive features mother–child relationships insight into mothers' views impact living shelters. conducted qualitative coding Five-Minute Speech Sample (FMSS) 41 mothers young children. Results revealed a wide variety strategies that used promote their children's resilient functioning. This included focusing on strengths, providing unconditional love engaging activities together. Mothers also voiced varied approaches parenting, including many practices. Mothers' FMSS ways shelter had negative child's functioning, they reported changes relationship with child since moving shelter. Finally, discussed which influenced parenting styles discipline. discuss implications findings for supporting residing shelters, we provide recommendations further research.
